The private home of Akitake Tokugawa, last feudal lord of the Mito domain. The house, an exemplar of the residences of the Japanese aristocracy at the end of the 19th century, is almost completely preserved. The house is a nationally designated Important Cultural Property, while the garden is a nationally designated Site of Scenic Beauty. The entire site is open to the public as “Tojogaoka Historical Park.”
